Finding HISTORY at the Wally Parks NHRA Nostalgia Nationals
The Wally Parks Nostalgia Nationals (previously known as the Hot Rod Reunion) is a great place to see historic drag cars, hot rods and wild creations. It's always held on Father's Day weekend and my dad and I love to go. While the event has diminished drastically since we first started going in 2008, it's still one of the greatest collections of nostalgia drag cars East of the Mississippi. We were only there for a day, but let's take a walk through and see some of the things that caught my attention. LATHAM Axial Flow Supercharger - Fascinating History of a Short-Lived Design
Просмотров 106 тыс.14 дней назад
With only 650 units produced, the Latham Axial Flow Supercharger is one of the rarest vintage speed parts out there, but it's also one of the most well documented products I've ever seen. Dozens of magazine articles, brochures and photos exist of these unique supercharger systems, helping us understand the history and scope of the company and its high end blower setup. They were efficient, they...
Six Cylinder '66 Nova Project - Done for Now!
Просмотров 4,1 тыс.Месяц назад
6 Cylinder, automatic with A/C sure has a nice ring to it, and it makes for such a nice-driving, easy-going project car. My father-in-law bought this car in the '90s and kept it all these years. We did a driver-quality paint job on it and updated some of the suspension and brakes. Yes, we could've swapped in a big motor, yes we could've done a lot of things differently, but the straight six com...
BIG TIRES & BLOWERS - Pigeon Forge Rod Run Spring 2024
Просмотров 99 тыс.2 месяца назад
I love the Pigeon Forge Rod Run, but I can do without the squatted trucks, and the shenanigans that go on during the weekend, so we do a mid-week trip to see some hot rods without the nonsense. Of course, I miss some of the cool cars because many of them don't arrive until Thursday or Friday, but it's still a great way to enjoy Pigeon Forge without the crazy traffic. This video showcases some o...
TIME CAPSULE '63 Corvette Drag Car with De-Stroked Lingenfelter Small Block
Просмотров 26 тыс.2 месяца назад
Destroying a '63 Corvette split window coupe to turn it into a drag car was common practice in the '60s and '70s. These cars were cool, but they were not the six-figure collector cars they are today. And as it turns out, Corvettes are MADE for high performance driving, so the progression into racecar status is just nature taking its course. This example looks like a '67 Corvette, and that's bec...
The Perfect '60s GASSER Comes out of Hibernation - Straight Axle HENRY J
Просмотров 22 тыс.2 месяца назад
Of course, it's time for a new project to go along with 47 others that are currently in the Hot Rod Hoarder collection. This one is really special because I've always loved Henry J gassers. My dad had one in the '70s and I can remember looking at pictures of it in his photo albums and hoping to someday find one. Well, this makes Henry J number 6 for me, and finally landed on a very buildable ca...
WILD Heads Up GASSER Drag Racing - Southeast Gassers Return to Brainerd
Просмотров 188 тыс.3 месяца назад
It's been several years since the Southeast Gassers Association raced at my home track, Brainerd Motorsports Park, but they returned as the season opening race in 2024. This event was PACKED with people...they were bussing them in from surrounding parking areas and squeezing into the stands to watch heads up, real deal gassers do battle on the historic drag strip. The action was wild with lots ...

This Austin Healey is ONE of a KIND and it's been sitting outside for many decades! Somebody, somewhere poured their heart and soul into making this Austin Healey 3000 roadster into a WILD hot rod. It's a full custom hot rod build with Chrysler torsion bar suspension, an Oldsmobile 215ci Aluminum V8, home made headers, CUSTOM transmission, and all sorts of custom body work. Mysterious Drag Car LIVES AGAIN After 35+ Years in Hiding!

Kellison drag cars are RARE and always interesting, but this one is WILD! Dr. Randall Zorn, an optometrist from Murfreesboro, Tennessee, had this Kellison built in the 1960's. It has a custom dual rail round tube chassis, with a narrowed Olds rear end, DZ302 engine and clutch-turbo transmission. Although it looks like a funny car, this Kellison never ran nitro methane or a supercharger, so it o...
Drag Racing HISTORY: The Legacy of Mr. Plymouth

Robert Nance is a Southern Gentleman who was a Ringgold, Georgia dairy farmer who went drag racing and WON! He started racing in the 1950's and made a name for himself locally, which led to a factory-backed arrangement with Plymouth, starting in 1962. He raced Max Wedge cars in 1962 and 1963, moving into a Hemi-powered Plymouth in 1964 and beyond. By 1965, Robert Nance and hired driver James La...
FACTORY DRAG CARS Exposed! The Holy Grail from GM, Ford and Mopar
Просмотров 367 тыс.5 месяцев назад
Factory drag cars are fascinating because of the rarity and extremely high value, but also for the WILD combinations that the big 3 manufacturers (General Motors, Ford Motor Company and Chrysler Corporation) threw at these race cars. All of them were built to meet the homologation requirements set by the National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) for inclusion in Stock Eliminator categories. Recently,...
Local DRAG CAR Survivor and Other Cool Stuff at Paradise Dragstrip Toy Drive

Paradise Dragstrip is one of my favorite drag strips, and they host a really great Toy Drive event in December. Rain cancelled the event two weekends in a row, but they were finally able to pull it off before Christmas. Special guests included Mike Finnegan and crew, along with his Blasphemi '55 Chevy and Rubber Duck Firebird, which used to sit under the carport at Paradise Dragstrip. Sleeperdu...
CRUSHING HISTORY - This '63 Impala Z11 Didn't Survive the '70s

This extremely rare 1963 Chevrolet Impala Z11 met its demise in an Iowa junkyard in the 1970's. It started life in Goldsboro, North Carolina, then Atlanta, Georgia, then New York, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Ohio and finally Iowa. The car retained its original 427ci W motor and special lightweight body panels throughout its time on the drag strip. You'll see this car's progression, including a brie...
HISTORIC Hot Rod Built in the 1950's is RESTORED!

This iconic '32 Ford roadster is a historic hot rod that was way ahead of its time, thanks to a long list of modifications that were performed in the mid 1950's. This is one of the most influential Deuce hot rods out there, and the car survived all these years without being drastically altered from its original form. This historic hot rod deserved to be brought back to its 1956 configuration, w...

Laser scan each part and make more so we can use todays materials to make them useful and badass on todays motors
Bro pressure washes the inside, most laziness thing ive seen in will it run video, but hey im with it 😂😂😂😂💯👊
A wonderful collection of dirt , rust and a flat tire
20:18 Hearing that you sold the thre cars without getting the motors unstuck and running again makes me very mad.
Dude those chain driven units are crazy 😮.
we GOTTA hear this one SOMETHING
Looking underhood its a total hack job with that ugly chevy in there. A big block Ford and anything in between the factory 302 bolts right in and does as well or better and overdrive gets the mpg with small displacement. Turbos add alot to the fun factor.
what about casting away the ,"heads", the poisonous methyl that comes out first??????
Get the feeling someone was into Jet engines or an aircraft engineer as really sounds like a turbine spinning up and kinda looks like one to..such and awesome design. The cool thing is with tech now you could put a small gearbox on the front and be able to run a small crank pulley without having any issues. The age were things were all about innovation :)
Where are pictures of Walt’s Puffer ? 1961/62 NHRA NATIONALS
The genius is air flow at low rpm
A beefier version for today's older hot rods with a AC compressor style engagement clutch and front introductory NOS nozzles cuz that is a jet style turbine compressor
Here I wondered if this was an idea someone was going to try in the future. The idea surely is more feasible now given the improvements in design and manufacturing.
Dude that van rules. Wow dont see that shit ever. Great view friend west Virginia mike
Great job friend , great coverage and comments . I can't stand the rat rods. When we were young we couldn't afford a paint job. Rat rods bring back bad memories lol. Your knowledge made the video. West Virginia mike

Loved it herd my mom and dad talk about going there❤
I had an idea for the older big engines with low compression . Why not use every other cylinder down the firing order to supercharge the firing cylinders . I dont like the turbo / high compression trend that is bad for engine life . My idea could be turned on for passing & the cylinders used for charging could be used for firing too . Running on low compression makes engines last much longer . A six cyl. using 3 for charging is a good place to start.
Christ on a cracker, it's an axial flow compressor. Some jets in the 50's didn't even have that
Wounder why it sounds like a jet engine? Because it uses the same compressor as a jet engine.
My phone is a supplement to my cameras (2 cameras complementing themselves with zoom and night/low light), ill use it if I don't have the cameras with me but not to video.
Great work researching this supercharger. I own #614 and run it on a 32 Ford Hi Boy. I have a couple of you-tube videos of it running on a test stand and in the finished car. It’s a great 60’s period hot rod part and it runs well on the street and the strip. Sounds more like a turbo because of the high rpm. Puts out 6psi so it will definitely wake up my 327! Thanks for posting this. Did my own research but obviously missed much of what you presented here.
Put a clutch on it and you have a Mad Max supercharger ! I really want that blower . You better Mad Max it!!!!!!!
I would keep the r-leaf springs, ditch the 4 link, and add ladder bars. Look at (more) early gassers!!,,,DUBS,,,,,
That looks like a willys front axle, definately not early ford. Aluminum pittman arm is kool, but, no way! Airheart m/cyl., could be OK. Lots of good there. ,,,,,DUBS,,,,
There's a Super Duster in the final drag race scene in Two lane blacktop.
Love that to you are teaching your daughter some basics and comradery! Good job
So you got the 15” mags. I went back to get them and they were gone. 😛😛. Plus I can see my arm in the shot of the dart firing up. Might see you this year. I’m driving my rugged 69 Road Runner this year.
I suspect the rotors mashing air together in the middle on a roots blower is the extra loss. And the loss through the air gap? These keep making a comeback as medical compressors because of modern metals and the lack of wear on the blades that could cause contamination.
I enjoy the older cars myself. What l really miss is surface rust. Surface rust wasn't always a good thing but l thought it looked cool. Shame it's been forgotten.
Love the patina on this car😍💪
Super cool video. Thanks!
Why not make Plans? Its kinda tough to build a Unique Hot Rod that hasn't been done a thousand times over these Days.
Would you sell the supercharger intake plate? I've got a Ford 390
Truly excellent coverage, I plan on doing this event with my brothers on the HAMB with my 1930 ford altered drag car from the 60's. Thanks again for the video. Mike
Awesome, thanks for the humbling comments on the Super Duster!
Respect 🫡 How cool… I have so many questions? I want one… to take apart. 8lbs of boost but if we change the carb to a different style could we push more fuel and worry about more boost after u get more gas.
Thanks for sharing
can tell this guy doesn't know much about physics.
There is a '56 Packard Patrician here in my town with a Latham and it is a torque monster.
Studebaker was known as a common sense car, that's why their simple to work on.
Well, considering the airflow is straight through and axial flow compressors tend to heat the air less than roots, screw and centrifugal type compressors, the fact it makes less boost does not affect this supercharger's ability to make power. The heat of an inefficient compressor alone is enough to raise boost pressure without actually adding power. If you have a supercharger making 10 PSI of boost and you are making 500HP at 10 PSI, with the pulley ratio set to say, 40,000 RPM for a centrifugal type. Let's say the pulleys are changed to a faster ratio, say the max for this supercharger is 60,000 RPM and you are running around 58,000 RPM and making 5 PSI of extra boost. You gain about, 55HP. You decide to overdrive the supercharger to 65,000 RPM, suddenly, you get say, 18 PSI of boost, but instead of making more power, you make the same, or less than the 2nd run. Why? Heat. With this axial supercharger, 7 PSI does not sound like a lot, but it has likely added far less heat, and depending on how it is mounted, likely provides a nice even mixture too. Sorry for the ramble, but this truly is ahead of its time technology. And I love it!
Impeller, not propeller. Great video though.
Hopefully it has a short air cleaner stud😮 😂❤
Right lane clock display is all goofy. Decimal in the wrong place and a blank space between hundredths and thousandths. On runs over 10 seconds the 1 is off the board like at 16:17 where it looks like they went 10.190 on a 10.00 breakout. I think I am able to read the time at least....
